The Olympics and The Now
Hello and Good Morning,
While we certainly aren’t athletes, we really enjoy watching the Olympics for a multitude of reasons. It is great to learn about the culture of the hosting country. I now know so much more about Sochi, Russia. Seeing all the athletes from the different countries come together and compete for their country is very unifying. It creates a sense of “we are all in this together.” There is pride and admiration, at the same time, and that is rather unifying. I can’t really think of another situation where those two opposing experience come together like they do at the Olympic games.
Also, on a spiritual note….these competitive athletes have such impressive, single minded focus that I assume that Buddhist philosophy is directly, or indirectly, some part of their training. When they are doing “their thing” it can be so impressive. You can almost feel them in “The Now” as they perform with almost a magic like precision. Then when they finish there is this flood of emotion and relief. This translates to the television, and we, the audience gets a little glimmer of that magic.
I hope that you are enjoying the games too.
Have a Blessed Day!
